Presidential Search

Shelton chosen as next UA president

On April 29, 2005, Arizona Board of Regents President Gary Stuart appointed Regent Fred Boice to chair the committee responsible for conducting the search for the next president of the University of Arizona (UA).  UA President Peter Likins has announced his intention to retire on June 30, 2006, having served as president since 1997.

The firm of Academic Search Consultation Service in Washington, DC, was selected to provide consulting services for the presidential search.  Dr. Ann Hasselmo, Managing Director, is the lead consultant, and she will be assisted by Dr. Stan Ikenberry.  Academic Search has completed hundreds of searches at colleges, universities, foundations, and other not-for-profit organizations.

The search committee will begin regular meetings in early September 2005. During October and November, forums will be conducted to gather input from faculty, staff, students and the community regarding the leadership characteristics desired in and the issues facing the next UA President. Finalists recommended by the search committee will participate in campus visits.

The appointment of the next president of the University of Arizona will be made by the Board of Regents. The Board anticipates appointing a new President at its March 2006 Board meeting.
