Regents adopt university tuition and fees for 2004-05
Word  / PDF

The Arizona Board of Regents has approved new tuition levels for the 2004-2005 academic year for Arizona’s three public universities. Resident undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees will increase at Arizona State University by $469, or 13.1 percent; at Northern Arizona University by $479, or 13.3 percent; and at the University of Arizona by $494, or 13.7 percent.

Under the new rates, resident undergraduate students will pay $4,062 at Arizona State University for tuition and mandatory fees; $4,072 at Northern Arizona University; and $4,087 at the University of Arizona. Nonresident undergraduate students will pay $12,917 at ASU; $12,592 at NAU; and $13,067 at the UA.

Board President Chris Herstam commented, “Setting tuition is a very difficult decision that we as Regents don’t take lightly. This tuition increase is necessary to maintain quality educational programs at our universities.” President Herstam noted that the Regents followed policy adopted last year as part of their Changing Directions initiative to move toward and maintain the resident undergraduate tuition level no higher than the top of the lower one-third of rates set by the senior public universities in the 50 states. “This increase will raise ASU to number 39, NAU to number 37, and the UA to number 35 in the 50-state tuition ranking,” President Herstam added. Also consistent with Changing Directions, 14 percent of tuition revenue will be used for need-based financial aid to offset the impact on the neediest students.
