Alice and Richard Snell

Alice and Richard Snell, known throughout the ASU community as Dinky and Dick, have been leading advocates for students and education. Their support of ASU has included leadership with the Alice Wiley Snell Professorship in Educational Policy Studies, the Richard Snell Presidential Chair and the APS Presidential Chair in Teacher Education.

The Snells have three daughters – Karen, Marilyn and Sarah – and two grandchildren – Sophie and Clay.

Dinky Snell

As one of Arizona's leading advocates for children and education, and the chair of the ASU Foundation's Board of Directors, Mrs. Snell is committed to ensuring that the ASU Foundation plays a lead role in increasing scholarship support for ASU students. ASU and the ASU Foundation have launched a fund-raising effort to provide more student financial aid. She also is a co-chair of ASU's Campaign for Leadership.

In addition to her role in the Foundation, she serves on the Dean's Councils of the College of Education, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the College of Public Programs. She also has served on boards at the Arizona Science Center, the Valley of the Sun YMCA, Children's Action Alliance, and the Arizona Cactus Pine Council of the Girl Scouts.

Mrs. Snell has received numerous awards, including the Phoenix Woman of the Year award from the Phoenix Advertising Club, the Freeman Award from the Science Center, the Volunteer of the Year award from the Alexis de Tocqueville Society of the Valley of the Sun United Way, and the Distinguished Achievement Award from ASU's College of Education.

She was a founding partner of Buchen Snell and Company, a Phoenix public relations firm established in 1980.

Dick Snell

One of the valley's most influential business leaders, Mr. Snell retired last year as Chairman of the Board and Chairman of Pinnacle West, whose subsidiaries include Arizona Public Service and SunCor Development Company. In 1994 he was voted Man of the Year by the Phoenix Advertising Club.\He has participated extensively in ASU activities, including the dean's advisory councils for the Colleges of Law and Public Programs. He also is a co-chair of the ASU Campaign for Leadership.

Mr. Snell is also a chair, member or director of over 15 community organizations, including the Phoenix Symphony Association, Arizona Community Foundation, Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board, Phoenix Community Alliance, Greater Phoenix Leadership, the Valley of the Sun YMCA and the American Graduate School of International Management.
