Roy P. Drachman is a member of one of Arizona’s pioneer families. The Drachman family was vital to the development of Arizona in early territorial days.

Drachman is a native of Tucson, attending local schools and the University of Arizona. His association with the UA has been long and generous:

• He funds a scholarship in the College of Architecture for upper-class students who have shown excellence in design.
• He is responsible for establishing The Drachman Institute, a facility for land and regional development studies at the UA.
• He has funded the development of the Roy P. Drachman center for Disease Prevention and Health Promotion at the UA Health Sciences Center.
• He served as chair of the Century II Fundraising Campaign for the UA.
• In 1985 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree by the UA.
• In 1990, he was chosen as the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the UA.

As co-owner of the Roy Drachman Realty Company, established in 1946, he has served in many regional Boards, commissions and real estate ventures throughout Arizona and the Southwestern United States. He also served as one of the original partners who founded Ramada Inns.

He served as past chairman of the Commission on Arizona Environment for 13 years. He also served on numerous panels of the Urban Land Institute in ten cities. He has served as a consultant in over 80 communities throughout the country.

Many awards have been bestowed on Drachman, including the Realtor of the Year for Arizona, the Arizona Associations of Realtors "1983 Citizen of the Year," the Tucson Chamber of Commerce founder’s Award, and the first ever Member Emeritus Award from the Urban Land Institute. In 1992, Drachman was inducted into the Arizona Business Hall of Fame. Later, in 1997 he was awarded the Arizona Historymaker Award, and in 1998, he received the Urban Land Foundation’s Governor’s Award.
