Higher Education Benefactors Honored for Service

A former ASU student body president, two leading advocates for children and education, and one of the valley's most influential business leaders have been honored for their service to higher education. Nadine and Edward Carson and Alice and Richard Snell have been awarded the 2000 Arizona Board of Regents Award for Outstanding Service to Higher Education.

The awards were presented at a luncheon during today's Board meeting at ASU. Board President Donald J. Ulrich, Jr. praised the award recipients for their service, thanking them for their outstanding work on behalf of higher education in Arizona.

Nadine and Edward Carson are alumni of ASU. Their generous support has helped several ASU projects, including the Old Main restoration, the Carson's Presidential Chair and the Nadine and Ed Carson Student Athlete Center in Intercollegiate Athletics.

Alice "Dinky" and Richard "Dick" Snell have been long-time supporters of ASU. They have provided leadership to ASU with the Alice Wiley Snell Professorship in Educational Policy Studies, the Richard Snell Presidential Chair and the APS Presidential Chair in Teacher Education.

The award, established by the Board in 1996, annually honors outstanding supporters of higher education in Arizona. Current and former Regents contributed to establish and annually present the award. Previous recipients include The Raytheon Systems Company, Roy Drachman, Jim Click, the Flinn Foundation, Katherine and Robert Herberger, Phelps Dodge, Frances B. McAllister, and Donald Soldwedel.
