Fred Boice

  • Regent Fred Boice is head of Boice Financial Co. and is board chairman of Caseworks Industries, Inc., a maker of wood products.  Boice currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the University Medical Center.  He also serves as a member of the Advisory Board of The Arizona Health Science Center and is past president of Junior Achievement of Tucson, Arizona Cattlegrowers' Association, Tucson Airport Authority, Tucson 30, Tucson Medical Center and the University of Arizona Foundation.  He received his bachelor's degree in economics from Occidental College and attended graduate courses at the UA College of Agriculture.  He was appointed to the Board of Regents in 2002.

  • Regent Robert B. Bulla retired in April 2003 as CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Arizona, the state’s leading health insurer, after 20 years. He also served as chairman and president and continues on the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Arizona Board. He was Valley Leadership’s Man of the Year in 2001. Regent Bulla was a founding member of The Arizona Economic Roundtable, and his current community involvement includes Greater Phoenix Leadership, the Heard Museum Board, and the Desert Botanical Garden Board. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Arizona State University. Regent Bulla was appointed to the Board of Regents in 2002.

    Ernest Calderón

  • Regent Ernest Calderón, a native of Morenci, Arizona, founded Calderón Law Offices after serving as a Partner for many years with a prestigious Phoenix, Arizona law firm. He maintains an active law practice focusing on civil law. He is a former President of the State Bar of Arizona, a past chair of the Roman Catholic Church of the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Community Foundation, a member of the scholarly American Law Institute and is a Martindale-Hubbell “AV Preeminent” rated attorney. He is former president of the Grand Canyon Council Boy Scouts of America, a past president of Valley Leadership and he actively serves on the boards of several civic and community organizations including the Northern Arizona University Foundation and the American Red Cross, Grand Canyon Chapter. During his career, Mr. Calderón has been appointed by five Arizona Governors to various boards and committees and he currently serves on Governor Janet Napolitano’s P-20 Council. He was the 2004 Man of the Year for greater Phoenix and was a two term member of the Arizona Commission on Appellate Court Appointments. He received his bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University and his law degree from the University of Arizona. He was appointed to the Board of Regents in 2004.

    Dennis DeConcini

  • Regent Dennis DeConcini served in the United States Senate from 1977 to 1995. During his 18-year tenure, the Senator secured millions of dollars in federal research funding for Arizona universities, allowing the universities to excel in key areas of academic study. Senator DeConcini served on the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Select Intelligence Committee. Prior to his time on Capitol Hill, he served as Pima County Attorney. He is a founding partner of the law firm DeConcini, McDonald, Yetwin and Lacy, and is a partner in the lobbying firm Parry Romani DeConcini & Symms Associates. Senator DeConcini received his B.A. from the University of Arizona in 1959 and his law degree from the University of Arizona in 1963.  He was appointed to the Board of Regents in 2006.

    Fred DuVal

  • Regent Fred DuVal is president of a consulting firm, DuVal and Associates, that advises clients in Washington, as well as in state capitals across the country.  He served as senior staff to former Arizona Governor Bruce Babbitt, where his portfolio included the Regents, and spent seven years in the Clinton Administration in Washington D.C.  Regent DuVal authored a book entitled, "Calling Arizona Home," which examines what brought us all to Arizona and how we relate to this place we call home.  He currently serves on the Board of the Children's Action Alliance and previously served on the boards of Prescott College, Desert Botanical Garden, and Valley Big Brothers/Big Sisters.  Regent DuVal grew up in Tucson and attended the University of Arizona as an undergraduate and secured his law degree at Arizona State University. He was appointed to the Board in August 2006.


    Regent LuAnn Leonard

  • Regent LuAnn Leonard has served  as executive director of the Hopi Education Endowment Fund since 2002.  Previously, she served in the Office of the Chairman of the Hopi Tribe and was director of the Office of Youth Affairs for the Tribe. Regent Leonard is a member of the Hopi Tribe and a descendant of the Tohono O’odham Nation.  She is a graduate of Northern Arizona University and Arizona State University.  She was appointed to the Board in 2008.

    Regent Anne Mariucci is a private equity investor and is affiliated with Inlign Capital Partners in Phoenix, Hawkeye Partners in Dallas and Glencoe Capital in Chicago.  She formerly served as President of the Del Webb Corporation, a national leader in large-scale community development and homebuilding. Ms. Mariucci received her bachelor's from the University of Arizona, where she was also a two-sport athlete. She currently serves as a Director of the Arizona State Retirement System, Scottsdale Healthcare, the ASU Foundation, the Nature Conservancy, and Fresh Start Women's Foundation.  Regent Mariucci was appointed to the Board in 2006.


    Student Regent David Martinez III

    David Martinez III

    • Term Expires: 2009






    Regent David Martinez III is a Secondary Education major at The University of Arizona. He currently works in the Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Office at the University and is the former Elections Commissioner for the Associated Students of the University of Arizona. Martinez worked as an intern for Congressman Raúl Grijalva and as a student correspondent for the Arizona Daily Star in Tucson. He served on the Executive Committee and as Secretary of the Arizona Democratic Party as well as President of the Young Democrats at the University of Arizona. He was a recipient of the University of Arizona Minority Student Achievement Award. His appointment is effective through June 2009.

    Regent Bob McLendon

    Bob McLendon

  • Term Expires: 2012
  • Regent Bob McLendon served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1983 until 2001,
    where he served for a time as House Democratic leader. Subsequently, he served on the Yuma
    County Board of Supervisors before retiring from elected office in 2004. McLendon taught American history and government at Yuma High School from 1961 until 1998. He holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Arizona State University.  Regent McLendon was appointed to the Board in 2008.


    Student Regent Ross Meyer

  • Regent Ross Meyer is a second year law student at the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. Meyer is very engaged in the Arizona legal community. In addition to his summer clerkship, he is a Research Assistant at the College of Law and also works with an Arizona non-profit, Defenders of Children, providing legal assistance to victims of child abuse. As an undergraduate, Meyer was Vice-Chair for the Arizona Students' Association, as well as President of Undergraduate Student Government, where he aided in adoption of a unified statewide plan for tuition. He aspires to impact education policy through his education and service as a Regent. His appointment is effective through June 2010.

    Hon. Janet Napolitano

    Governor of Arizona 

    Hometown: Phoenix

    Governor Napolitano was sworn into office on January 6, 2003. She served as Arizona's Attorney General from 1998 until assuming the governorship.  In 1993, Governor Napolitano was appointed by then-President Clinton to serve as United States Attorney for the District of Arizona. Governor Napolitano received her undergraduate degree in political science summa cum laude from Santa Clara University in California and her law degree from the University of Virginia.

    Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction

    Hometown: Paradise Valley

    Superintendent  Horne was sworn into office on January 6, 2003.  As a  member of the Arizona Legislature, he served as vice chair of the Education Committee and chair of the Academic Accountability Committee.  He has been a member of the Paradise Valley school board for 24 years, the last ten years as president.  Formerly, Supt. Horne has served as a Special Assistant Attorney General, Judge Pro Tem with the Arizona Attorney General's office and as a teacher of legal writing at ASU Law School.
