ARIZONA BOARD OF REGENTS
Minutes of a SPECIAL Meeting
January 27, 2006

A special meeting of the Arizona Board of Regents was held January 27, 2006, in Room 303 of the Swede Johnson Building in Tucson, Arizona. President Palacios called the meeting to order at 10:04 a.m.

Also present were: Executive Director Joel Sideman, Board Counsel Paulina Vazquez-Morris (By telephone), Ms. Cathy, McGonigle, and Secretary to the Board Judy Garza, (By telephone), Central Office, and Ms. Ann Hasselmo, Consultant.
Regent Boice announced that the purpose of this meeting was to consider the appointment of a new president for the University of Arizona. Regent Boice moved to appoint Mr. Robert Shelton to the presidency of the University of Arizona with a total compensation package of $550,000 and a tenured faculty appointment with his appointment to begin July 1, 2006. Regent Jewett seconded the motion.
Regent Boice stated he was very pleased with the search process and the high quality of candidates that had resulted from the search. He said he was pleased with President Likins’ presidency and was looking forward to working with Dr. Shelton.
President Palacios thanked Regent Boice for his service as chair of the search committee and all of the hours he spent to make the search a successful one. She thanked Ms. Hasselmo for her service as consultant to the Committee.
By unanimous roll call vote with Regents Boice, Bulla, Calderón, Jewett, Stuart, Graff, and Palacios voting yes, Dr. Robert Shelton was selected as the next President of the University of Arizona.
Members of the media were alerted that Dr. Shelton would be available to participate in a press briefing at 3:00 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 2:35 p.m.
