Gov. Napolitano expands plan to erase budget shortfall

Gov. Janet Napolitano on Thursday presented the Legislature with an expanded version of her plan to erase the state's growing budget shortfall. Napolitano's new proposal adds up to $870 million of spending cuts and other budget changes that have the effect of finding dollars to maintain spending.

Massive telescope project gets boost from Microsoft execs

University of Arizona defensive coordinator Mark Stoops is considered a possible successor to take over similar duties with the Miami Hurricanes. Sporting News reported Wednesday that Stoops, who was the secondary coach for Miami before joining the Wildcats after the 2003 season, is considered the top candidate to replace Tim Walton.

Battle lines are being drawn over Gov. Janet Napolitano's plan to offer domestic partner benefits to state government workers. The Center for Arizona Policy and Alliance Defense Fund and other socially conservative groups oppose the idea saying the plan bypasses the Legislature and would strain state finances.
